Kyla real name is Melanie Hernandez Calumpad. She was born on January 01, 1981.She is a Filipino R&B singer, actress, Model, dubbed as the "R&B Princess of the Philippines". Kyla has won in the prestigious MTV Video Music Awards as 2001 MTV's Southeast Asian Viewers Choice Awardee(who she is the only female local artist who won) along with OPM bands Eraserheads and Parokya ni Edgar. The R&b singer has collaborated with international artists such as Fra Lippo Lippi, Ronan Keating, British boy-band Blue, Malaysian R&B singer Ferhad, Malaysian hip-hop duo Too Phat, and Keith Martin and many compare her voice to Aaliyah and Tamia. She is Classified as Dramatic Coloratura Soprano known for her raspy and husky voice.

  • She won the grand prize in Tanghalan ng Kampeon at 12 years old!

  • Her first album “WAY TO YOUR HEART”, which gave us the hits “Bring It On” and “Hanggang Ngayon”, is considered one of the first authentic R&B albums to emerge from the local music scene.

  • February 2002 proved another important date for KYLA as she released her second self-titled album with “I Feel for You” as the carrier track. In just a short span of time, the single has reached the no. 1 slot in various countdowns in almost all of the top FM stations.

  • The year 2002 was a busy year for KYLA as she joined Regine Velasquez, Lani Misalucha, Jaya, Ogie Alcasid & Janno Gibbs every Sunday in GMA-7’s top-rating noontime show SOP (Sobrang Okay Pare).

  • On January 24, 2002, Kyla was chosen to be a part of the MTV Asia awards held in Singapore, She had the privilege of sharing the stage with UK’s top boy group BLUE.

  • KYLA was also chosen to do a duet with no less than RONAN KEATING at the Araneta Coliseum on February 13, 2003.

  • KYLA opened the year 2004 with her birthday presentation in Gma-7’s SOP where she is a regular co-host with a surprise duet with no less than Keith Martin via the song “Because Of You” which Kyla interpreted in the Perfectly Acoustic I album released by EMI/Polyeast Records in December 2003.

  • October 9, 2004 is another red letter day for Kyla as she and Luke Mejares opened for the Alicia Keys World Tour Concert at the Araneta Coliseum.

  • On May 26, 2005, Kyla was one of the front acts for “Ashanti” concert at the Araneta Coliseum.
