Due to the problems his family is facing, JOvit decided that he could use his talent to save them from poverty. He honed his singing skills by studying and listening songs during his free time. When he heard about the Pilipinas Got Talent talent search, he tried his luck joining in their Batangas auditions. He almost didn't make it for he doesn't have any money but a councilor gave him financial assistance.After singing his audition song, Kris Aquino who is one of the judges, commented that finally they saw someone who has talent and charisma. During the Pilipinas Got Talent Grand Finals held on June 12, 2010, fans screamed out his name while raising streamers and waving balloons the moment he stepped on stage. Out of the 12 hopefuls, he was finally declared as the first Pilipinas Got Talent grand winner. He was given a standing ovation after his performance on the finals night. He got 48.81% or almost half of the total votes. He won two million pesos. He plans of buying a piece of land for his family and helping his siblings graduate from school. Jovit even has a huge following on the Internet. His rendition of Faithfully has 1,690,509 views while his rendition of "Carrie" has 734,481 views. He was considered as one of the most-watched Pilipinsa got Talent contestants on YouTube. Jovit's song "Ika'y Mahal Pa Rin" (or "You Are Parting") is being used as the main theme song of the drama TV series "Angelito: Batang Ama".
